Most of the important decisions should be handled several days before your maternity photoshoot in Dallas rather than the night before.
I recommend confirming:

Wardrobe affects much more than color. The shape, fabric, neckline, and amount of movement in a gown can influence posing, lighting, and the overall look of your portraits.

Professional hair and makeup are optional, but many maternity clients choose them because makeup intended for photography can photograph differently from everyday makeup. The day before your Dallas maternity photography session should be simple. There is usually no reason to make major changes to your normal routine. I would avoid last minute treatments that could leave your skin irritated, swollen, dry, or unexpectedly red. That includes aggressive facials, chemical peels, strong exfoliation, unfamiliar skincare products, waxing immediately beforehand, or trying a new spray tan.
Instead, focus on having your clothes ready, knowing where you need to be, and getting as much rest as pregnancy allows.
The night before your session, you can:

No. You do not need previous modeling experience for a maternity photoshoot in Dallas. I direct posing throughout the session, including hand placement, posture, shoulders, chin position, and how your body is angled toward the light.
Maternity posing is different from general portrait posing because small changes can make a significant difference in how the belly is defined. I may ask you to slightly rotate your hips, shift your weight, move one hand, or adjust one shoulder rather than changing the entire pose.
During a session, I often direct clients to:
- Shift weight onto one leg
- Turn the belly slightly toward the light
- Relax the shoulders
- Place one hand above or below the belly
- Adjust the chin or direction of the eyes
- Move fabric or the train of a gown
This is one area where experience matters. After photographing maternity clients since 2013, I know that a pose that looks nearly identical from where the client is standing can photograph very differently after only a small adjustment in angle.

You generally do not need to bring very much, particularly if you are using gowns from my maternity wardrobe.
Depending on your session, I recommend bringing:
- Nude and black undergarments
- A strapless option if needed
- Any personal wardrobe you want photographed
- Comfortable shoes
- Water
- Makeup for minor touch-ups
- Clothing for your partner or children
For outdoor sessions, comfortable shoes are especially useful because some Dallas-area maternity locations require a short walk before we reach the areas where I photograph. You can change shoes once we are in position.

Although maternity portraits are typically photographed between 28 and 35 weeks, I recommend reserving your date earlier. Booking in advance gives you more flexibility when choosing a session date, scheduling hair and makeup, selecting an outdoor location, or arranging a studio visit to try gowns.

What Can You Expect From a Dallas Maternity Photography Session?
Once the session begins, you should not have to think about every detail yourself. I direct posing, adjust gowns and fabric when needed, watch the lighting, and make small changes throughout the session based on how each setup is photographing. For outdoor sessions, I also work around the direction of the evening light and the landscape rather than simply photographing in one spot.
For studio sessions, we may move between different wardrobe, backdrop, and lighting combinations depending on the collection you choose.
